Credit Card for online dating site

In the past I've used my credit card to pay for a subscription to an online dating site. Despite cancelling my subscription in the manner described in the site T & C I was still billed again. I then had to really battle with them to get a refund.

Since then I've not used that site but now would like to do so again. However I do not want to get stung by recurring billing. I was thinking that a prepaid Card might be the answer or an online 'virtual card number'. I can then load up the exact amount for the subscription I want and cancel. If they try to bill again there won't be anymore to take.

Is this a sensible plan or are there any pitfalls I haven't considered?

Thanks
SB

I would imagine their systems would be clever enough to distinguish between a 'regular' credit card and one of the options you're considering (eg first 6 digits are the BIN/card type), and so may decline it at checkout.

However, why are you paying anything? There are free dating sites out there (allegedly!).

You can try Cashplus prepaid card. For some reason it is accepted at placed where it is possible to pay only with credit card, but actuality it is a debit card. Imho it is treated as credit card.
  • Yea, I have only dabbled with the free ones, let me know if you have any luck
