Radiator TRVs - quality brand?

Options
I'm planning to replace some radiators and wondered if anyone in the trade had any recommendations on which TRVs to fit?

Is there any difference in quality and longevity between the major brands, is it worth paying a premium or are generics good enough?

Danfoss TRVs with liquid sensors are very good. They are reversible which means they can be fitted to either end of the radiator.

Have a look at the RAS-C2 and RAS-D2.

  • We only fit brand names eg. Honeywell Radplan 120 or Drayton TRV4. Buy cheap ,pay twice (or more).

Another vote for Danfoss and/or Drayton.

Honeywell if you want to pay the money.

Drayton are overpriced and not worth the money.

I never have any trouble with the cheapy ones at around £5.50 per valve though.

;) Cheap or quality, you can have problems with either ;)

Its dependent on how they are used and treated, AND the quality of the system water, system design, installation, and set up :(

Whatever you get I would advise you operated them fully open to fully closed several times and regularly to keep the valves freely working, leaving them in set positions is one of the biggest reasons for seized inoperable TRV's :(

Our 2004 build house has Myson TRVs.

We bought it in 2011 and assume they are all originals.

One head has failed. The valve itself is fine so I will just buy a replacement head. I'm watching a few on Ebay and expect to pay well under £10.

I don't know if Myson are good quality or not. Hopefully that is an isolated failure.

I've got Alitech (presumably rubbish?) on a couple of radiators and one clicks quite a bit. Will look to get them replaced with a known brand.

Based on the above I've gone for Danfoss RAS-C2

    Thanks.
