Paying into a credit card

Im going on holiday soon and will be making a purchase which will swallow up nearly all the credit limit on our amex and i was wondering how it would stand if i was to credit my card with say £2000 before i go ie on sunday, i pay tomorrow funds would be clear friday or monday hopefully freeing up available to spend on the card as weve been told some places do a discount for amex card use. Does anyone know if this would work please?

you should be able to do it, but it's a lot quicker by online banking (if you have it) to do it.

check with amex first .. some cards wont accept positive balances

Thank you, i do have online banking but it still takes 3-5 days to show on the amex account, but they wont talk to me on the phone as hubby is primary card holder and at the moment his shifts are hecktic so i thought i would ask on here first, it might actually be less hassle if i transfer the purchase money on tuesday and hopefully reach my card on friday so for the final week we can use the card.

I think you can pay amex on their website.

However be aware that you money MAY not be insured.
If your card is in credit and YOUR money is stolen then it may not be covered on the AMEX insurance.
I don't honestly know about AMEX but I do know that Nationwide insure THEIR money (debit balance) but do not insure YOUR money (credit balance) so that's something to bear in mind.
