Invented Information on Report

Hello!
A couple of things. Firstly I've noticed on my credit report that an entry has a start date that predates my birth by about 13 years. I'm thinking I'm well within my rights to ask the credit reference agencies concerned to remove that entry until the creditor can invent a more realistic date?
Next, I've another account which is in dispute at this time (they appear to have invented the creditor they purchased the account from). Am I able to put a note on my report regarding that account to indicate that I don't believe I owe the money in question?
Thanks!

Yes you can put a notice of correction on your file. It means that anyone performing a credit search on your file should look at the notice and your file and that your applications wouldn't just be looked at by computers.
How much notice a potential lender will take of your notice of correction is debatable.
Yes it is fair to challenge the credit reference entrywith the wrong date. If you query it with the Credit Ref Agency then they should query it with the lender.A smile enriches those who receive without making poorer those who giveor "It costs nowt to be nice"0 -
IMO a notice of correction is just another hurdle lenders would rather not jump.0

Thanks.
I have queried that item. Given it's clearly wrong they're obligated to remove the entry until they have up to date information.
A CRA knowingly carrying incorrect information doesn't go down too well.0 -
Why not address the matter directly yourself? May be quicker.0
