Nits do not cause itching, its when they hatch and the lice crawl over you scalp that you start to itch.......
Nits do not move..... Dickeys do.....make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -
I got an itchy scalp when we first got our shower fitted at home. I was washing my hair in the shower and rinsing it by tipping my head backwards into the spray. I found that I wasn't rinsing the shampoo out properly. I know bend forwards to rinse it and the itching has gone.
I can vouch for the too-hot hairdryer too. I didn't realise that my old one was so hot until I picked it up by the barrel, it was too hot to hold!"I may be many things but not being indiscreet isn't one of them"0 -

I'm getting itchy just reading this thread :rotfl:
Still think it might be worth OP getting the doctor or nurse to look at her scalp. Could be seb.dermatitis or something like that.0 -

I've just been diagnosed with seborrheic dermatitis. OP, if you ever get patches of dry skin on your face it may be worth a trip to your GP! (Or talk to a pharmacist first if you don't have time to get to the doctor.)They call me Dr Worm... I'm interested in things; I'm not a real doctor but I am a real worm.

Worth seeing a doctor to rule out actual skin infections etc.
The paraben free route is also worth a try. I'm allergic to SLS so most of the shampoos I can use are incredibly expensive, but I also can use the Naked range from boots.
Also think about what other products you use beyond shampoo and conditioner. I can't use gels or hairsprays as they break me out, or certainly not near the roots (can get away with them on the shaft of the hair though).
Stress and eating too much sugar also make my scalp problems much much worse.
I really do sympathise!0 -
Definitely go to the doctor and get it looked at. I had the same problem, mentioned it to the doc when I was there for something else and he did that thing mechanics do, sucking air through his teeth, and prescribed Betnovate scalp lotion for excema. Oh it was lovely, almost instant relief.
A good pal of mine was recently diagnosed with psoriasis on her scalp and in her ears.1 -
I had itchy scalp for ages that I would make bleed and result in a never ending cycle ........ However for several years I have been using Elvive Nutri Gloss Light Shampoo and it is, in general, completely fine ... only if I am ill and haven't washed my hair for a few days I can sense it reverting ..... As I had a tendency for oily hair, when I used things like TGel it just still felt heavy/not clean enough, but I find this feels fine and clean (and non itchy!)
Quite often 'on offer' in supermarkets or Superdrug/Boots.0 -
"Have you tried going paraben/sulphate free? I was really sceptical until it got to the point I was making my head bleed from scratching so much..."
I was in misery with this, incredibly itchy, scaly and flaky.
And would wake up to discover I'd scratched my neck at the hairline raw and bleeding.
Moving to SLS Paraben free products did the trick. Not overnight but by the end of a month the problem had pretty much disappeared.
They tend to be more expensive but like everything else can be on deals. Holland and Barrett do a few, Boots is pretty limited.0 -
Another believer here in going SLS free. I was using a baby shampoo which contained sls at the time and my scalp was very itchy & developed what was like dandruff but very very fine! Ditched the sls products & started using L'Oreal Hair Expertise Shampoo & conditioners & no now itchy scalp and the flakes have gone away!! Bodyshop's Rainforest's shampoos are also SLS free I just find that Loreal makes my hair feel a lot better!:j2019 Wins: Feb: £10 Aldi Voucher, Frankie & Benny's meal for 2; May: Game from Maynards.
