Rental problems

Hello,
We moved house last month. Our home is in a desirable village where houses are about 550 pick.
Ours has no double glazing is epc rated g and storage heating. The decor was pretty shoddy too however at 430pcm we weren't so worried about these issues.
There is however other problems since moving in.
The header tank is downstairs so there is no pressure for the shower (which is a mixer tap style not electric) so it is either boiling hot or freezing cold - landlord refusea to do anything about it as the "property was not advertised having a shower" & "it is not faulty" however when we viewed the property the shower attachment wa fitted so am I right in thinking they should either fix it or compensate us for it suddenly being without a working shower?
Also the house was absolutely filthy on move in (thick grime, dust, dirt, cobwebs, urine in the toilet etc. We were told this was because we were keen to move in quickly. The property was advertised as available from 9th Sep we moved in on 23rd - where do we stand on cleanliness at the beginning of a tenancy? We've pretry much cleaned most of it now but it was pretty disgusting.
Our letting agent just seems to think because it's cheap we should put up with the endless list of problems but if you factor in extra costs of heating its not much cheaper so I do expect The shower to work and for it to have been clean on moving in.
anyone have any advice?
Thanks in advance x

I'm trying to look for the endless problems and the only two problems I can find is that you thought you could use the shower due to a shower attachment and the fact that the place was dirty when you moved in.

From the description, I am not sure there's anything to "fix" with the shower really.

As for the cleanliness, did you not do a check-in inventory? This would have noted any issues. Did you take photos of the place when you moved in?
  • The endless problems were not all listed as my main concern is not being able to shower but they are:
    Broken window frames
    Leaking skylight
    2 storage heaters not working
    Overflow pipe leaking
    Immersion Heater timer broken
2 faulty smoke alarms (connected to mains)
    Massive hole in floorboards
Pointing to brick fireplace falling out in chunks
1 of the front door locks is broken
Damp in one bedroom (pre existing to when we moved in & we have aired for condensation)
Rising damp in kitchen and bathroom (all carefully concealed for our viewing)

In addition to this there was no cooker on moving in even though we were told there would be, verbally sadly.

We did a full inventory and sent back a massive amount of amendments, including the cleanliness (specifically that the toilet was unclean and we found a variety of disgusting items in a cupboard that I won't go into but was vile. There was thick dog hair throughout etc)They were told all this on our moving in & we did show them photograph. but we were just told that the last tenants had to come back in after they left on 9th to do repairs and because we were in a rush to move in, 2 weeks later, that the cleaning must have been missed (though there was no sign of this on the inventory).

Like I said my main concern is we are unable to shower at the moment and I'm having to wash my hair with a jug which is far from ideal. I just wondered if it was something they should've pointed out at our viewing or subsequent correspondence.

The landlord clearly doesn't give a toss about the state of the property or the experience of the people he lets it to. You can argue until you are blue in the face but you will probably get little joy followed by an S21. May as well just look for another place to move to in 6 months.
