BT prepaid line rental / calling plan

I had signed up to a prepaid 12 month line rental plan with BT which expires on 18th April 2013.

I was informed that the free evening & weekend calling plan is coming to an end. As I don't wish to continue with this, I was expecting to be able to continue on a basic package. However BT call centre staff member stated I either:
- had to sign up to 12 months further evening and weekend calls (I don't want to commmit to this)
- or pay £3.50 for this service per month (I don't want this service)
- or sign up for a further 12 months without the evening and weekend calls (I don't want to commit to this)

Really annoying, as we have to either pay more money, or commit to a further 12 months (note that the Pre-paid line rental expires in 6 months time)

Not helped by the attitude of one of the call centre staff which was actually quite confrontational and not helpful at all. It's been a long time since I've encountered that kind of unhelpfulness & attitude. Complaint filed :(

Assuming you were given the call package as a "deal" to get you to sign up for the line rental saver (and you aren't mixing this up with the announced intention to charge £3.50/month for 1571 and caller display), then your complaint should be upheld!

The 'free' evening and weekend calls are in exchange for a 12 month commitment, so you have to pay £3.50 per month, if you want this service without a contract.

However, you are under no obligation to agree to a 12 month extension, if you pay for all calls.

Where are you getting the £3.50 from?

(Bt include weekend calls, and evening calls cost £2/month)

It was in the letter about price increases and the fact that my line rental saver was due for renewal. Perhaps it's the new price ? I have never paid for the package, so don't know.

Update: £3.50 sounded familiar (I no longer have the letter), but having checked my last bill, I was charged £3.30 for evenings and weekends, then this was deducted, as has always happened.
