Multi Fuel Stove Problems

Evening folks. Wondering if anyone can help me. I had a stove fitted last year by a 'reputable' fitter. It is a small multi fuel stove using the original clay chimney.

The fitter put a reducer(?) on to a length of flue so that the 5" stove flue would fit the 9" clay chimney opening. He filled the gaps around this with rockwool and fire cement.

The stove seemed to be working fine until large chunks of the rockwool and fire cement started to fall on to the stove.

When the chimney was swept from above large amounts of soot feel onto the hearth and not into the stove, leading me to believe that the gaps between the reducer and the original clay chimney are quite large.

There was no register plate fitted.

I was wondering if anyone has had one fitted in a similar way and if it is ok to fill the gaps again with rockwool and fire cement?

I have phoned a few stove fitter in the area (Northern Ireland) and none will touch it as they did not install it.

Any help appreciated.
