Bailiff letter re warrant advice please

I read these forums a lot but need a bit of advice that I can't find any answers too.

In a nut shell, 6/7 years back a ended up in a lot of debt at college that I couldn't cope with.

Gradually over the years I have started to attempt to settle some of my debts, which are still considerably higher than I can cope with.

I haven't acknowledged any of them until a time where I can settle them partly in the hope that some become unrecoverable.

I've recently had a letter from my local county court asking me to contact their bailiff regarding a debt.

How can I best deal with this ? If there is a warrant does this mean there has been a ccj ?

They are asking for it to be paid in full - are there any alternatives as I seriously can't pay it in full.

Can anyone give me any advice - any at all would be appreciated.

Thanks

You should check your credit reports with all three agencies, try and find out who each of your debts is with, how much you owe and what stage it's at.

If you have any CCJs they should be on your credit report.

Have a look and see what you can find, then decide what to do next.

If there are any debts you haven't paid or acknowledged in 6 years that haven't already been taken to court, they're statute barred which means they cannot be enforced in court. This means the lenders can do nothing more than ask you for payment.

    Edit:

The statute barred rule is 6 years in England/Wales, 5 years in Scotland.

  • Thank you,

If this debt has a warrant issued by my local court what steps can I take at this point as they are set to appoint a bailiff to visit ?

    Cheers
