Credit card direct debit - wrong amount taken

When I first had a credit card, I have set up a direct debit to pay my credit card in full every month. I haven't changed the method direct debit payments, such as minimum or set payments each month (not even once).

It is the first time, the direct debit debited the wrong amount. It debited a random amount mentioned in this months statement, instead of the full amount. For example, the statement amount for October is £500 (and that amount should be paid in full). Instead, only £400 has been debited. Now the statement amount for November is £100. I have decided to pay £100 this month (so that no 'late' charges can be made), and when I check my credit card account online, it's £0.00 to be debited by direct debit in November.

It is strange that a random amount is taken, even though the direct debit has been set up to be paid in full, and I haven't changed anything to it.

Also, when I check my credit card account, the October statement isn't even displayed too.

How is this even possible?

Now I will have a large balance to pay in December now, probably near the £1000 mark. For example (as of today), currently my credit limit is £2000, available credit is £1180, pending transactions is £0.00, which makes the current balance now £820. If I decide to the full £820 (or part of the £820) of it in November, will the amount decrease from the 'current balance' section of the credit card (despite the direct debit for November is now £0.00)?

It's hard to explain. I hope you get what I mean.

    3 suggestions:

    1. You've had a refund (which has offset the statemented balance and they've adjusted the DD to suit), or
    2. The (£100 of) transactions weren't posted to the account in time (there's generally a 2 day period between transaction date and posting date), or
    3. Ask the card provider?

The amount to be taken by direct debit is based on the amount owing when the statement was produced.

i.e. Statement date is 20th - amount owning on the 20 £300 current balance on the 30th £500.

The direct debit will be £300 due to the fact at the time the statement was produced that's what you owed. the extra £200 will go onto the next months statement.

It seems to me that you're confusing statement balance and account balance.

You mentioned that your statement balance for October was '£500', then say it's not available onlne. It's unlikely that a the Direct debit for an October statment would have been taken yet.

After checking my online transactions, there was a refund. I didn't know it will affect it. Now I know for next time. :o

    Thanks.
