Employment job

I tripped from stairs while at work, please help

Hi there I work as a door to door sales, while working in rain be I got tripped outside customers house.
badly injured my back and tail bone as it got the full impact.

the company did not provide me with safety shoes that was the reason I tripped coz I was not wearing safety shoes.

I am unable to walk, drive and do any other stuff for last 2 months, and now the company has put me on statutory pay i e £80 a week. on which i cannot survive and iam not eligible for state benefits either.
I have been giving them doctor note, gone to physio and tried everything but still not recovered. I joined the company only 5 weeks ago when this accident happened.

i want to sue the company for compensation of the pain and still disable after 2 months, and for paying me less. coz it was their fault that they pushed me to work on rainy days without giving proper shoes.

sorry for a long post, i appreciate any advice, in this terrible situation..

  • How would safety shoes have prevented a trip, bearing in mind safety shoes have a steel toe cap and thus are larger and heavier than normal shoes, and are mainly used to prevent toes being squashed or cut off in the event of heavy things falling on them?

which is it? The way this reads you hurt yourself 2 months ago but joined the company 5 weeks ago; AFTER your trip?
  • I feel sorry for your accident it sounds very painful (if it's true), but it's not the company's fault, it's not unreasonable for you to work on rainy days and salesmen do not generally require safety shoes. So don't waste your money trying to sue them, you'll lose out big time if you take that route.
On the face of it, the company sounds pretty reasonable, because they've been paying you in full for the last 2 months while off sick and you'd only been there 5 weeks. Oh, and they're STILL employing you!

The tone of what you write is that you are an ill-educated, money grabber who wants to make some quick cash off a reputable company.
While you're off "sick" maybe you could study a GCSE in basic English and learn how to spell, punctuate and use grammar.

If you're genuinely disabled there is help available and I hope you get well soon and get back to work.

Also, before you go back, get yourself some safety shoes for under £30 and a waterproof jacket for about £20. Your SSP should cover that.

It appears OP is an IFA.
God help his clients if so.

Unless contractually they pay more SSP then they would be mad to pay you because their insurance will pick up any awards you get if you sue them.

I am interested to know what safety shoes are required to walk in rain...

  • well safety walking shoes are without steel tow and have more grip.

I am thinking is it worth to contact citizen advice bureau to get help on this matter.at least it will not cost me if I lose the case..

See a no win no fee solicitor would be a better use of your time IMO

    You tripped, not slipped.

In all my years of work I've never heard of safety grip shoes; can you post a link?
