im a single parent who is about to start an open university degree. I was wondering If I am entitled to any loans and grants or student cards like a normal university student would be entitled to thanks.

As all OU study is counted as part time, you can only take out fee loans but you can continue living on your earnings and/or benefits as you are at the moment.

You are eligible to take out an NUS Extra card as an OU student.

  • I am a single parent just starting with the OU too. There are no loans or grants available for maintenance just the loan for fees unfortunately, as Dunroamin said.

I have just got the nus extra card myself as it gives 10% off at the cooperative so will save me more than the £1 a month it costs.

I am also working and get to keep my tax credits so financially am no worse off than before.
Life is not the way it’s supposed to be. It’s the way it is. The way you cope with it is what makes the difference.
