Debarked trees

I have some plums trees that have been debarked by some sheep.

How do I save the trees?

It depends on how well they have debarked the trees. If they have completely ring-barked them (there's a complete ring of missing bark all round the tree), then there's nothing you can do. The tree might grow new shoots from below the damage, but anything above it will die off.

If it's just damaged, then the tree should heal up, provided you keep the sheep away.
    If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.
  • The other thing to be aware of is that any new growth from a fully ringbarked tree may well grow from the rootstock and you may not get the plum you bought.
I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.
