I Got The Job!

Just wanted to share my story with you all. I am currently 20 years old. At the age of 17 I got my first "proper" part time job working in the office of a retail store. I was over the moon with this as it gave me a bit of extra pocket money through school and Sixth Form.
I achieved good A levels and then went on to university. Unfortunately, it was a really bad experience for me. Didn't enjoy the course, didn't mix well with the other students. didn't feel like I belonged there.
I went back to working in this office part time on 12-20 hours a week. After a rough year filled with family bereavement and endless rejection letters from job applications, I finally got a job!
I will now be working as a customer services receptionist in my local council offices. 37.5 hours a week and my first real salary. This is a huge step for me, and I finally feel like leaving university was the best option for me.
Not only do I want to share my story but I have to urge those who are job seeking not to let it get you down. After 12 months of searching and feeling low, it has paid off. Keep going and it will happen for you also. Best of luck to you in your search.

Two pieces of advice:
1) DO NOT opt out of the pension scheme
2) DO join the union

I second that and would add,
3) Take up any training opportunities offered or study independently for an appropriate higher level qualication, either through evening classes or the OU.

Good call.
OP you will be able to access training via your union as well as your employer. You also have a legal right to request time off for training.0 -
