Bought second hand - warranty?

Hi,

I wonder if any of you can help with a warranty problem I have.

I bought a second-hand smartphone on Amazon earlier this year and I was really pleased with it until recently when it refused to charge. I searched online and it is a known fault with this model. I contacted the vendor and they told me that they bought the phone in January of this year and posted the receipt with the phone. I have searched for it but cannot find it anywhere. However, I have found the warranty slip. It states that I need to provide the receipt when asking for a repair.

Is there anything I can do to try and get the phone repaired? It is in warranty until January 2015.

Or should I just give up, accept my loss, move on and remember to keep my receipts?

Thanks in advance.

I could be wrong, but I don't think that warranties are transferable, so even with the receipt I am not sure if you could have done anything (could be wrong though).
  • Well warranties are transferable if the terms and conditions say they are, but there is no requirement to even have a warranty and they don't have to be transferable.

Did you buy the item from a business or a private seller?

Hi, thanks for the responses so far.

Unfortunately it was a private seller. It was through Amazon though so maybe they could advise?

  • Also, if it helps, the item is a Huawei Ascend G300.

I have seen some details here:

From that document, on page 3:
    Warranty Provisions and Service Levels:
This product warranty extends only to the original end user and is not transferrable to another end user.
But is that the warranty document applicable to your product?
  • Although the warranty isn't transferable, if it didn't require registration and you had the original receipt, it's unlikely the company would know you weren't the original purchaser.

However this is less an issue of you buying second hand, and more of you not having the original receipt. Without it you're probably stuck.
