contracts then does that mean that there are times when the company operates with 10% of its maximum workforce?

I highly doubt it. Most of them will, I'm sure, do a number of hours each week. Considering all the employees they must have, 90% would be a lot of people and there's not likely to be any point when not a single person will be able to work the hours, leaving just the 10% to do it all.0

I worked for an agency employed by sports direct and none of the contracted sports direct staff where on zero hour, all of them where full time.0

Be interesting the result but can't see how they are doing anything illegal if they are observing the employment laws of the land who allow this.
As I said before, the success 38 degrees claim seem tenuous at best to me.Don't trust a forum for advice. Get proper paid advice. Any advice given should always be checked0 -

It's zero hour contracts, but you'll find some of them do work a "decent" amount of hours, just without the contractual safety to protect them.
But we all know what Sports Direct are like & frankly I think "shocking" is an understatement.Retired member - fed up with the general tone of the place.0 -
How can the law stop it though?
Zero hours are banned=1 hour contracts coming in force and so onDon't trust a forum for advice. Get proper paid advice. Any advice given should always be checked0 -

I read that the Labour were considering giving employees on zero hours the right to a contract based on the number of hours worked in a certain period, if they win the next election.0 -

The challenge is not against nil hour contracts, it is against those on nil hour contracts having less rights than others - there is a big difference.0
