Leaving Virgin-they want me to pay to uninstall equipment

hi

cancelled virgin broadband/telephone/tv service and they said they will collect the tv set top box for free

but to take out and make good the box on the wall where the broadband/telephone cables go (sorry don't know the techie jargon) will cost a fee

would appreciate if anyone knows whether this is true?

i think they're just trying to get me to keep the boxes for the next occupier:rolleyes:

Makes sense doesn't it? Why are you bothered? Would you expect BT to come and remove their socket and make good for nothing?

  • its not just a small socket its a couple of little plastic boxes with blue telewest written all over them that frankly look a bit sh*t.

i use to cover them with a piece of furniture but my buyer wants them out for the above reason

guess i'll take a hammer to them and patch it up myself

They do not belong to you, so using your hammer could be costly!

Why make heavy work of it, just tell your buyer you will add the cost of removal to the cost of the property.

After all it's him that wants it removed not you.

I'm not an expert, but I wouldn't have thought they could dictate what you choose to have fixed inside of your private property. Presumably the new occupant will be getting some sort of telephone service installed, and the new providers should sort out the internal connections - they wont be using the existing cable anyway - unless the provider is Virgin....
I would just open the box on your outside wall (its normally secured by a cable tie) and pull the cables back from the inside boxes and secure them inside the box. Then take the boxes of the inside wall in one piece. Virgin won't be any the wiser if you don't mention it when they collect the STB
