Hi, I am just wondering if there are any practical reasons that accepting voluntary redundancy over compulosry is not advisable?
Many thanks.

Voluntary or compulsory, it's still redundancy.
If you volunteer your employer will not necessarily make you redundant, selection will depend on a set criteria.
You can still claim 26 weeks Contribution based Job Seekers Allowance, makes no difference that you volunteered for redundancy.0 -
Exactly the same.....make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -
Voluntary - it will be agreed when you will leave. Check any protection insurance policies, such as mortgage, as you generally are not covered for voluntary redundancies.
Compulsory - you will be served with your contractual/statutory notice and leave on that date.0 -
The difference is normally financial. If its a compulsory redundancy, you are only entitled to the statutory minimum compensation, although some companies may pay more, but they are not obliged. If its a voluntary redundancy, the compensation packages are normally far more favourable. 20 years ago I took VR from an academic institution. I had worked their only 4.5 years but received in excess of a years salary. If CR this would have been probably a tenth of what I received.Eat vegetables and fear no creditors, rather than eat duck and hide.0
