Bit concerned with Royal Mail at the moment!

Two parcels were sent to me, one from Worthing(West Sussex) and one from Leeds and I live in Manchester, both sent on 5th June.

One was sent 1st class recorded and the other sent 1st class standard, and neither have arrived!!

I have rang my local sorting office and they have not got either of the items and I have checked with both sellers and they were both sent to the correct address.

Argggghhh

If they don't arrive within the 14 day window that the Post Office require I would put in a complaint to the Manager of your local sorting office. Something sounds amiss with the local office, somehow.

  • It sounds as if there is a thief!

Maybe you could phone the Manager at the sorting office and express your concerns before filing a formal complaint?

The Royal Mail are terrible for losing stuff but I have only had 1 parcel go missing in over 3 years, 1 out of hundreds.

    There is something wrong here.

You need to check the recorded one, as any tracks on the item may give you some clues, and you need to phone up Royal Mail Customer Services and ask to speak to someone in mail security (IB) and explain the details and see if you can take it further and find out what happened..

Thanks. I rang them earlier this morning and they basically apologised and said I should wait a few more days just incase there has been a delay.

I think recorded (signed for) is not tracked. It goes in the sack with the rest of the post and then a signature obtained on delivery. As far as I know there is no tracking on its journey. Special Delivery is tracked but is much more expensive.

Maybe Soolin will pick up on this thread. I believe her local office had theft taking place which was exposed after several of her parcels went missing.

    Hi..

Yes a few years ago I had a spate of parcels go missing and the complaints department that used to be in Glasgow (is it still there?) were marvellous. After a lot of hoo ha they sort of admitted they had 'problems' and that staff would be dealt with in an appropriate manner. At that point though they appeared to be targetting certain parcels..mainly recorded.

However in this instance you have really done all you can and your sellers need to help you with this. Now you've chased up your PO let the sellers know that nothing is being held for you, and basically ask the sellers for a refund. The sellers can then refund you and reclaim their own losses from the RM, and there is nothing to stop you also making a complaint (nothing to claim of course as you are the buyer) and asking for these losses to be investigated.

Cheers Soolin. One of the items was purchased from ebay and the seller was very friendly and basically said that she would send a replacement out if the item does not arrive tomorrow.

The other item, which were a pair of specialist trainers(£100+), was sent by a shop by first class recorded delivery, even though I paid for it to be sent by courier. They e-mailed me and said they would have a word with RM if they have not arrived by tomorrow. Anyway I paid for them on my CC so if it goes wrong at least I will have some protection!

After having a word with the sorting office manager yesterday, everything arrived this morning safe and sound. God knows why it took so long!!!
