If you don't object to driving to Gatwick you can get 4 flights (with 23kg of hold luggage each) for £760 6th to 18th August next year with BA. You'll even get a glass of wine and sandwich on the flight!0

Be careful, what happened this year is no guarantee of what will happen in 2014. This year Ryanair's initial pricing was far too high and by mid year they realised they had to reduce fares to fill the planes. Easyjet on the other hand had lower fares to begin and did well. This year those who booked closer to departure did well with Ryanair but I doubt Ryanair are going to get burned in the UK for a second year in a row. See if you can get similar prices to this year and if you can, book, and don't look again but I suspect for next summer the initial prices may be lower so it may be better to book early rather than late0

I'm going on Norwegian Air Shuttle from gatwick later this year. Not used them before but was cheaper than Easyjet, the plane has WIFI and you can carry two bags into the cabin.

IME that's how Ryanair usually prices their flights, i.e. they start out pretty high, then are reduced closer to departure.0 -

This year, they decided to mug early bookers.
I don't believe it was a mistake. They just took advantage of the "book early for the cheapest fares" philosophy.
A lot of early bookers will have paid up, mistakenly thinking prices could only rise.
I still believe, if you can have a week or 2 flexibility then 6 to 8 weeks is the optimum time for booking.0
