If you've been sat down all day in a cool air conditioned office? If you've only worn it for a few hours in the evening rather than a full day?

If you've sniffed it and its fine? :D

Sometimes things smell fine when you take them off but after a while they start to smell a little of sweat- something to do with reacting with air over time or something. Definitely happens though. That's why I'd always take off, lay out, and then smell before putting on again/setting aside to wear later!!!

I wash my armpits so they aren't dirty - don't you?

Most people wash, a lot use deodorant, but people can still sweat and thus clothes touching this area may not be perfume scented!
Perhaps those who don't sweat so much don't realise how it can affect your clothes if you do sweat.
I don't want to wash my clothes any more than necessary, but the reality is :
    1. tops close to skin (not bras) need it pretty much every day.
    2. underwear/socks clean one (sometimes two) times a day.
    3. jeans and trousers normally 2-3 wears.
    4. cardigans. sweaters normally 2-3 wears, though if I have been really warm I will double check the under-arm area!
    5. jackets maybe monthly.

DH wears work clothes that are cleaned weekly, jeans weekly as only wearing at night, jacket monthly, everything else daily.

DS (6), school clothes I make last as long as they look/smell clean- wiping small marks off, ditto clothes that he wears in the evening (though during hols these are on for longer so washed more often), everything else similar to me.

What we think of as a sweaty smell is actually stale sweat. That's why you've found this.

Some people seem to become so used to their own smell that they're not conscious of it, so sniffing their own clothes doesn't tell them anything. Years ago I worked with someone whose BO started bad on the Monday and got worse and worse as the week went on. Everyone avoided being near him and complained to his line manager who chickened out of speaking to him about it

I'm astounded that people are sending dirty clothes out to be ironed  Quite apart from how gross that is, it shows a complete disrespect for the person who is supposed to do the ironing. Sending clothes with blood in the crotch - yeuch! Stephb1986, you have my sympathy.

What's even more shocking is that someone would pay to have their pyjama bottoms ironed professionally!

I wouldn't even iron them full stop, never mind paying someone to do it for me! lol

How can someone be so anal as to have their pijama bottoms ironed professionally, yet be scruffy enough to send them stained? It doesn't quite compute!

I might wear DIY trousers three times, linen or cotton only once, silk ditto and jeans maybe three times. But that would be in the house. When going out I always wear fresh underwear and clothes even if only going to local shop.

Gosh I can't believe how long some people wear their clothes for without washing them! I wash jeans/trousers after 2 wears max, underwear/socks daily, skirts 2-3 wears, jackets/cardigans maybe 3 weekly.

There is nothing worse than the smell of unwashed clothes - I really notice it on a couple of my colleagues and also on people on the train in the morning.

And I would never wear the same clothes to work on consecutive days - nothing worse than being accused of being a dirty stop out ;)

Sorry but changing clothes that often is a choice you've made and isn't essential for hygiene unless your work or leisure activities are dirty ones. Until this thread it never occurred to me that if I someone sees me with the same clothes two days running they will make assumptions as to my morals.

I can't believe how often some people wash their clothes - all that electric, water, detergent etc. Also must make the life of the clothes much shorter.

I think I am a clean person - I shower and wash my hair every day (twice a day if it's hot or I get sweaty or dirty doing gardening etc). I also wear clean underwear (bra, knickers, socks (in the winter) every day but I certainly don't wash jeans/ trousers after 1 or 2 wears as I just don't think it is necessary.

Of course it depends what you do whilst wearing them. If I garden in a pair then I would wash them whether that was the first wear or second etc. After a normal's day wear though I don't think they are dirty and would wear them maybe for a week.

I normally start the day in dog walking clothes (jeans in the winter, cargo trousers in summer, T Shirt (with fleece and/or jacket in winter). Then I get home and change into housework clothes. If I go out I change into going out clothes. I will change into dog walking clothes again later afternoon/evening. Usually the dog walking and housework clothes get washed once a week.

Trousers I wear to go out in I probably wash every 4 wears unless I either spill something on them or if if it's hot weather and I get sweaty. Most tops I will wear twice, again unless I spill something on them or it's hot.

After a few washes clothes never look the same - or perhaps that's me because I don't tend to spend that much on my clothes and I don't wash at really low temperatures
