Anyone know how long it is from applying, to approval, to account opening ?
Also is the bonus awarded for spending 2K given in 3 calender months or 90 days ?
I want to time it right so an upcoming trip is within the 3 months(90 days) from account opening.

Difficult to say really as it all depends on how your initial application goes. If you get an immediate acceptance then you might have the card the following week. If you get a refered decision it could take a couple of weeks, especially if you have to provide proof of identity in the form of certified documents etc. It isn't uncommon for Amex to request this, especially if you haven't had one of their products before. On the bright side, if you are asked for documents then its probably a good sign that you will be accepted if you are able to provide them.
As for your other question, I believe it is £2k in your first three statement periods. Call Amex CS to confirm, they're quite helpful.0 -
I got a decision (approval) in about 5 seconds (seemed a lot longer at the time)

From then it was a week to getting the card.
I believe the minimum spend needs to be within the first 3 billing cycles.
Although I'm in two minds whether to keep the card, it's attracting the wrong sort of attention whenever anyone sees it.0 -

But it's when you pay for the trip that counts, not when you take the trip. Using Amex for foreign spending is not a good idea as they have their own rates plus 2.99% commission on top.0 -
Thanks Zerog. The trip is already paid for on my BA Amex.
It's the spend whilst on the trip( restaurants, souvenirs ,admission charges etc.) that I was concerned with. I want all that spend to fall within 3 months of account opening.0 -
I applied for the Plat cashback on 11/08 and got an email 48 hours later saying congratulations you have been accepted after manual underwriting.
I applied for a charge card a few years ago and received a letter 3-5 days later saying i'd been declined
Hope this helps_________________________________________
