My stepdad has worked on and off for the same place since he was 16. He's worked there continuously for the last 15 years. It's a small butchers and he pretty much runs the place now as his boss is old.
My mum has just found out that the shop is up for auction next month and my stepdad has not been notified of this. He has never had a written contract of employment and my mum is wanting to know if he needs one in order to be entitled to redundancy pay, any holiday pay he's owed (they're having a hard time getting it as the boss is nearly bankrupt) and if the boss needs to provide a certain amount of weeks notice before my stepdad is made redundant?
He's the only earner so my mum is obviously very worried about this. Any help would be much appreciated.

Your dad may not be made redundant, maybe whoever buys it will keep the old staff on.
Anyway, he doesn't need a written contract in order to be entitled to redundancy pay, no.

If the current owner / new owner can't afford to pay redundancy, then there is a govt scheme to cover this.Signature removed for peace of mind0
