CRB Check

Hi, the employer my husband has been subcontracting for have suddenly asked all staff to pay £75 for a CRB.
Firstly, as CRB's no longer exist and the replacement is only £44, should they be charging this?
Secondly, can they just suddenly ask for a CRB and expect him to pay for it? £75 is a lot to just suddenly pull out of our budget.

It may be they are using an outside agency as their registered body, who will charge a fee for processing the application form. The company I work for do this. I don't think we pay quite as much, but I've seen companies quoting around the same price as you have been quoted.
If your husband was an employee, then I'd expect the company to pay for the check. If he's only sub-contracting, then I suspect they will say he either pays for the check or doesn't work for them anymore. You may just have to suck it up.
However, I may be wrong!!0 -
Hmm, that's what we thought. Just seems like a PITA that this has only been brought up after 9 odd months of working there0

Has he checked that the company really is entitled to ask for a DBS check? We're finding we have less reasons to do one, not more ...Signature removed for peace of mind0

He works doing installations in houses, schools, old people's homes etc. so around vulnerable people. I'd assume that would make them entitled to ask?0 -

Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S)

Many people are asked for clearance from the Disclosure and Barring Service who actually do not need it. It is an offence to insist on one that is not needed. I suggest you read this, and check t5he full website for further information.

I've seen quite a few jobs advertised where you have to pay for your own DBS check. I don't agree with it and it would be even more annoying if you were already working for someone and they asked you to pay for one.
ETA I have just realised that I have somehow resurrected an old thread!3 stone down, 3 more to go0
