slugs upping the ante

Have you considered encouraging birds which eat slugs into the garden? Seed feeders, ground feeders and fat balls are usually very popular.
Chickens like slugs, although unfortunately they like practically everything else too. Any friends got a duck or two you can borrow?
This is a very interesting article about slug control
http://www.cf.ac.uk/biosi/staffinfo/wocs2.htmlIt is a good idea to be alone in a garden at dawn or dark so that all its shy presences may haunt you and possess you in a reverie of suspended thought.

I go out on slug/snail patrol armed with a handful of salt.
Just a sprinkle over them.............. and they bubble up and munch no more.Fully paid up member of S.A.B.L.E.

I've no idea whether it's going to work, but i've mixed used coffee grounds, salt AND crushed eggshells with a load of sharp sand, and have scattered it around each of my brasicca/lettuce beds. I'm keeping my fingers crossed, as my lovely cabbages are already more hole than leaf, and i can't pop down to patrol the allotment in the evening due to parental responsibilities!
I've also placed plant pots (with the bottom cut out) around young plants, and smeared vaseline around them to stop the !!!!!!s crawling up. A real sign of desperation?!!
Good luck, everyone. See you on the other side!Debt free date: October 2006 :money:0
