Operation MSE, Phase 3: 0% Purchase Credit Card

The renewal isn't until early August, but I reckon that it is time to start planning the next phase in MSE-ing my finances: the car insurance.

I will work through Martin's master plan for quotes nearer the date, but I am wondering if I ought to get the application for the 0% for 12 months on purchases credit card (Halifax One Card or HSBC) sorted in advance?
The acquisition of wealth is no longer the driving force in my life. :)

I just applied for a Nationwide credit card today and they say I should have it in 15 days (enough time for my hols!). Going by that time frame I would think applying now would be too early for an August purchase.

Regarding the car insurance - last month I renewed by going through moneysupermaket and saved £90 and got better cover by going with Bell Insurance from Direct Line.
