Have you tried Late Rooms? We got ours from there earlier in the year and it was half price. I had a quick look just now and they looked pretty full but I didn't know what date you were looking for.

This might be a bit late for Mikedavidson if he has already gone, but I did spot this offer earlier (from here) which will knock 40% off ticket prices and give you a free fast pass ticket for Oblivion (although last time I went to Alton Towers the oblivion queue was pretty short lol). Anyway full terms on the Alton Towers website
