I will be going on my hols to australia in a few weeks and just booking the last bits for my trip
I need to hire a car for 7 days and it says that a credit card is needed when i collect the car.
I have no credit card, but I do have a visa debit card
are debit cards accepted. if not, why is a credit card needed?
thanks

They put a reserve on the credit card in case of damage, fuel etc. They don't usually do this with debit cards, but some might. It depends on the company, they might accept a deposit instead.0

Some firms cannot shadow charge on a debit card, especially as all car damage etc will be billed to it - a debit card will reject this unless you have a substantial balance, so you may be stuck.
Why not ask them before you turn up at the rental desk?0 -
