    You will find it in gardening books as Leycesteria it will grow quite tall but can be cut back hard in March and will regrow quickly. I strip off the leaves and use it for flower arranging

    It's usually brought in by the birds - they eat the seeds somewhere else and deposit the remains in the garden. That's how I got mine, I'm sure.
  • I have several of these they are called Leycesteria formosa
    & they are also commonly known as
    Himalayan honeysuckle..

    My mother in law gave me this plant 3 years ago and it looks lovely at this time of year. Mine has grown to about 8 feet. It has also sprouted some seedlings a few feet away again. Enjoy this beautiful plant.
