Hi everyone

Wondering if you can help me, I have been on jsa since last year and never had any problems. I have just received a letter saying

'We have looked at your claim following a recent change

We cannot pay you job seekers allowance from 14 June 2013

If you want a full explanation of why your jsa has changed, please get in touch with us'

On the 25 th of June I received a call from the number on the letter, I called back and so knew it was the DWP. I asked why I was called and they said they couldn't see anything wrong and couldn't even see evidence of a call. Not sure if the two are related but the letter is also dated the 25th of June.

Does anyone know why I may have received this? I have never missed an appointment. I have never done anything wrong. Has anyone had experience of this and it has turned out to be a mistake in sending the letter?

I am panicking a lot and almost in tears, it is my only income and I have to pay board etc and get no other benefit

A few weeks ago I told them about a job I had been offered however I have not worked any hours yet.

Would really appreciate any advice

The only way you can get to the bottom of this, is to contact them - we would only be guessing. However from what you say, it is possible that they have you down on their records as starting work.

Thanks. I have called but they are not open til Monday so until then I don't know how I will cope with not knowing if I can pay the bills. The thing is I haven't given them any information about working, also, I told them I will only be working about 5 hours per week. Can they still stop my JSA?

Do you know if it will be a long process to get my JsA reinstated?

How long have you been receiving JSA? You can only get contribution based JSA for 182 days, after this you are moved onto income based JSA and often moved into a work group. Just phone them if that is what is suggested on the letter.

I have only ever been on income based as far as I am aware. I am unable to ring them until Monday so just wondered if anyone had any similar experiences as I am panicking so much right now about it

Thank you for replying, really appreciate all your responses

I would guess they either have you down as starting work but for that to have happened I think you would have to have signed off JSA. Other reason could be because they have sanctioned you for not attending an appointment, even though your saying you have not missed any, they may say that you were sent a letter with an appointment.

I have already had a sanction for 4 weeks for failure to attend an appointment that I never knew anything about.

Thank you. I signed on on Thursday and nothing was mentioned, but maybe they wouldn't mention it anyway. When I called the number back on the 25th they said they couldn't see any reason why someone would have called, although the letter may have been sent after the call

Do you think they would have mentioned a missed appointment, when I signed on on Thurs? I am now with the work programme and only go to the job centre for a few mins every two weeks to sign on, so them sending a letter with an appointment would surprise me, and I definitely haven't received a letter
Thanks everyone. Will try to stop panicking and just wait til Monday

It could be that you have not received an appointment letter from WP or have you even called WP and asked to reschedule an appointment as the appointment they gave you was not suitable?

I have always attended all appointments and my last appointment which was on the 19th,my advisor gave me a letter with my next appointment on, which is on the 10th of July. So unless the wp have sent me another letter which I haven't received, then I truly don't see what I could have done wrong

On the phone when I called to change my bank account a few weeks ago, she said something about working and I told her that I had recently been offered a part time job of about 5 hours per week. She told me that when I declare the hours I have worked, I must take in wage slips to back this up, she said if I didn't I could lose my benefit.

I haven't worked any hours yet and haven't handed a form in with my hours on , because I asked him on Thursday for one and he said you only fill one in when you work. I haven't done any hours yet so have nothing to declare. I have no idea if it is to do with this issue, but as far as I am aware I have done nothing wrong at all. I hope it is just a mistake as I have bills to pay and don't know how I will pay them without my JSA.
