The few black blackcurrants which I have are bursting open. What is wrong with them?

    Fruit splitting like this is usually the result of the plant being too dry and then getting a spell of ample water.

    If we do have a dry spell, it's worth doing extra watering - not an just a sprinkle on the surface but a thorough soaking.

    Mojisola is absolutely right. It's the same effect you get with tomatoes that receive erratic watering. Curiously (at least here in Kent) the lousy summer has actually been a lousy dry summer and I have had to water the denizens of my fruit cage surprisingly often considering how cold it has been.

    yep, I concur. A few of mine are doing this.

    Mind you mine wouldn't be so dry if him over the back chopped down his sodding Leylandii.
