in Cutting tax
My boss pays me in cash and pays my tax aswell and I recently got a large tax rebate in my name but he is saying that the money is his and not mine. I just want to know if he is right saying that it is his money or if I should just keep the money for myself??

Please can you explain exactly how this works?0 -

It sounds like the op is on the dreaded net pay scheme - used to be very common but less so now. I never could understand the logic of this. An employer could pay two employees £150 net pay per week, one on a code BR, the other with full personal allowance with the former costing him/her a fortune.
These schemes are perfectly in order - not much the op can do in my opinion. However, very much entitled to a wage slip by right - always important to check that NI and tax deductions are made and paid and declared to HMRC.0 -
I was on the BR tax code but i am now on a normal tax code. Just confuses me as to why my employer thinks my tax rebate money is his0

Normally it wouldn't.
However if you are on a net pay contract it would. What does your contract say?0 -
I don't suppose the OP is a nanny but this type of thing? http://www.nannytax.co.uk/a-net-wage-agreement-can-be-costly
And he is now on a normal code (net pay agreement no longer practical) because of the Real Time Reporting to HMRC? http://www.payefornannies.co.uk/parents/net_vs_gross.htm
OP, you should be getting a payslip. Are you sure your NI is being paid?0 -
I have just found this http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/payerti/payroll/special-pay/free-of-tax.htm
http://www.taxation.co.uk/taxation/Articles/2012/08/29/46061/caught-net This discusses the question of tax rebate and ownership.0
