How long does it take? (Calculation letters)

I just wondered please, how long does it take for HM Customs take to send the calculation letter after they sent the cheque (refund) from overpayment of tax (P800 tax calculation).
The cheque arrived the middle of last week (for my friend), and it stated that the calculation letter is sent separately.
She's not received it in the post as yet, did contact the number on the letter who said they sent another one out but nothing in her post as yet, so wondered if her local Tax office in her town centre would be able to track the information down for her? (to get is faxed through etc)??

Not sure if my mate would be eligible or now, she is an employee waiting for certain info from the Tax office, and I note you can check progress of certain things online, can anyone clarify please? thanks.
