Updating CTC

Evening all
My wife and I have 2 children, male 19, female 16, we receive CTC, small amount of WTC, CB and small amount of HB.
Now daughter has left school and is starting college in Sept, son is at college currently, finishes on 12th July and will be starting full time work on 2nd Sept. I have informed CB who pay the benefit for son until 26th August and daughter carries on as normal.
Now on my latest award notice from CTC they have daughter as not qualifying after 31st August which I understand I will have to update them on and son as qualifying until Oct (the day before his 20th birthday). I presumably have to ring them when son actually leaves college but does CTC stop for him immediately or is there a run on until end August like CB.
Also does HB still count him as child like CB do or adult like CTC do from mid July? As presumably if CTC stops for him from mid July but CB doesn't until end Aug when do I inform them that he is no longer a dependant.
Thanks for any help.

ctc will stop for your son from the day he finished college. they wont carry on til september as he isnt returning to education.
your housing benefit will change as you will no longer receive a premium for him. you will also have a 'non dependant deduction'. as you only receive a small amount of HB, you may lose any entitlement

You need to inform tax credits when your son finishes college - CTC will end immediately.

However, when I was in this situation with my two older children (2 years and 5 years ago respectively), Housing Benefit department advised me that my child would be considered to be a child for housing benefit/council tax benefit (as it was called at that time) purposes while I was still receiving child benefit for them. Once child benefit ended (in your case, at the end of August), the child/young person was counted as a non-dependant for housing benefit/council tax benefit purposes.

Would do no harm at all to ring your housing benefit department and confirm if this is still the case, just to cover you.
