My son is 25 and on job seekers allowance, he lives with his grandmother, in a housing association flat and she has been told that they will have to pay £13.50 per week now he is over25!
I always thought if you were on any benefits that rent was paid. My mum receives a pension and up til this week all her rent was paid. Could some one tell me if this is right and he has to pay it please?

I'm surprised but it's right, see link below, its the same for all councils across the country.

The only exemption is if his grandmother is receiving the care component of DLA or is receiving AA.0

it is a non dependant payment and your son should pay it0

I don't know but won't his JSA be going up by that amount so I guess it won't make any difference0

Yes his JSA will rise by around £15"You've been reading SOS when it's just your clock reading 5:05 "0

the rules have changed so he will have to pay it unless her gets a flat of his own0

We have to pay this amount. My son is 19 and on ESA. If his money is going up it will not make him worse off.0
