Hmrc have put a hold on my child benefit... any ideas why?
I have 3 children one turned 16 in october last year and is just finishing exams I returned the letter they sent saying he was going on to further education..
When I ring the help line they say I have to wait for a returned call within 7 days and I cant seem to get any further than that...
For what reasons would they put it on hold? Can I ring someone else? Will they pay my impending overdraft charges??? Help me??

It is probably something quite simple like they have lost the form or need more information.
You could fill in this form online here:
https://online.hmrc.gov.uk/shortforms/form/CBOCH297e?dept-name=CBO& sub-dept-name=& location=3& origin=http://www.hmrc.gov.uk
just in case! It might speed up the process.0 -
I will try that thanks... I did read on the website that if your child had turned 16 the payments dont stop untill the following september anyway...
Very cross they just stop things ans dont notify you!!!0 -
Then you should still be getting it for them...

Of course the other thing that might trigger a stop is an increase of your salary to over £50000!0

Is there anyone else who might be trying to claim child benefit for them? You are right that child benefit does not stop until the 31st August for a 16 year old leaving FTE.0
