Benefits after Bereavement

A friend of mine will be a widow soon. Her husband was self-employed, so is she. She does about three days a week as a cleaner.
They have never earned much, so have no private pensions or anything like that, I don't think they have any insurance. He has been claiming Tax Credits. She has informed them he is in hospital and they have adjusted his claim accordingly.
They own their bungalow outright (thank goodness).
They are both under State Retirement age.
Would there be anything she could claim when her husband dies? Council Tax Benefit and the reduction for a single person springs to mind, anything else?

Imagine someone holding forth on biology whose only knowledge of the subject is the Book of British Birds, and you have a rough idea of what it feels like to read Richard Dawkins on theology: Terry Eagleton
