Question about JSA and completing Tax Credits renewal

I am in the process of filling in my Tax credits renewal form and from the end of October last year up until the 8th January I was claiming JSA.

According to the form I only need to fill in my JSA if it was contribution-based JSA not income-based. I'm not sure what I was on though, as I can't find the original paperwork (I have my P45 from the Jobcentre though, so I know how much it was).

I only work part-time and up until I was made redundant, I was earning less than £6,000 a year.

Should I fill it in, as I don't want to not put it in and get caught out later on?

  • You'll have to phone DWP to find out which is was - I did a change of circumstance with tax credits last week, and had no clue whether I'd been on contribution based or incomes based JSA, so was told to phone and find out, then phone tax credits back.

Yes you need to check with DWP.

Contribution based counts as income for tax credits, income based doesn't.

Thanks. I've managed to find my letters about JSA and it was contribution-based.

I filled in my tax credits form accordingly and sent it off. :)

my husband was made redundant twice last year so the 1st occasion was income based and 2nd time was contribution as I only worked part time, I was pushed by the advisor when I renewed to give one or the other so said it was contribution based although I did give her the amount taxable on letter from job centre which was 1926.50 was I presumed was income based? we received 110 pw for a couple, the 2nd time it only lasted 4 weeks total 71.00 per week and states contribution based, so now I am confused totally !!!!! which is taxable and have I given the right details????:mad::o:o
