tax credit overpayment - HELP!

i notified the tax office in may 2007 that my daughter finished full time education in july 2007, they are now saying i was over paid, i have appealed this as i notified them in plently of time but they have put the matter into the hands of a debt collection agency, this company call continuously and are really rude, i did everything right and feel totally desperate, the only money i have ever owed in my life in my mortgage - please please can anyone help, my father died on wednesday and my mother was diagonised with dementia last week - i am at my wits end and am not sleeping and don't know what to do - any advice would be appreciated - thank you.

Pay the debt and concentrate on the more important things in life

do you have the revised award notice from when you notified them of the change?

Are you sure your dates are right? Tax credits can't record changed until they happen. Did you call them in July when the payments didn't stop?
