Query Re: Bank of Scotland current account offer

Hi Everyone,

On the website at the minute the best current account deal is with Bank of Scotland. They are offering £100 for opening an acccount and depositing £1000+ for two months.
My question is, could i open this account without the need for closing my current 'current account' (with Lloyds TSB) down?
If so then persumably you could just deposit the £1000 twice get the free £100 and then close it down???

Thanks in advanced.

Are you living in Scotland? If not, you probably can't take advantage of the offer. Halifax (same group as Bank of Scotland) had the offer earlier in the year.

However, if you are in Scotland and you open the account, they will arrange to transfer all DDs, SOs from LTSB to their account. However they cannot actually close the LTSB account so you could try what you propose.

You also need to maintain the account for at least 10 months. If you close it before this period, then they will deduct GBP (10 X remaining no. of months).

    Cheers!

Is this true? I went through the online application and it let me complete, BUT I haven't heard anything from them in over a week. Is that the reason, because I don't live in Scotland?

Quite possible. I live in London and they have not responded to my application as well (filled out 8 days back).

I have had response to my application. They want me to verify my name and address. I tried to do this on Sat, but branch wasn't open.

Btw, my sis and i both applied on the same day, she has yet to receive any correspondance. I think i must be special:rotfl:

neither of us live in scotland either

FWIW, I am currently north of the border and applied online to the Halifax while the offer was with them. I was able to sort out the snags at my local (H)BoS branch. I would imagine things should work the other way as well.

I applied last Thursday, of course haven't heard anything yet. Actually I don't mind about a bit of a delay because I want some time to be able to carry on a feud with Abbey while still a customer of theirs.

There was nothing on the website to say you couldn't apply if you are English, it seems they've put some more controls in place (see ashu's post) to stop carpetbaggers applying in the same way as the Halifax offer.

I bet BoS are wondering why I asked for chequebook in Gaelic... well I just thought it would be amusing.

Can you provide a source for this information?
