Early or Late Booking...?

We are hoping to go to Berlin for a few days at the end of September. While the weekend itself is fixed (we need to be there on the Saturday), we are fairly flexible when we leave and return (anytime in the week preceding and following). In the weekly e-mail there always seems to be various offers for the coming couple of months on various airlines.

I can't work out whether it's better to buy a ticket now, or to wait and hope for an offer a couple of months before our departure time. Any thoughts...?

Depends on several things such as the airline you'll be using as different airlines may have different pricing structures and the sort of prices you are currently being quoted.

Happy to go with the cheapest airline! We're located near Edinburgh but most of the cheap flights are all from London airports. We're happy to head down south to catch a flight (book enough time in advance and about £20 is usually possible for that journey). At the moment, flights seem to be around £90. That seems much more expensive than the offers (but who knows if the right offer will come up?) and much more expensive than the old days of free flights!

Ryanair from East Midlands may be an option but for the cheapest tickets with them you are probably better off waiting until September flights go on sale. Honestly, £90 for a return is hardly expensive.

Oh, that price was one way!

Do you mean that the cheapest tickets with Ryanair are usually available the month that you want to fly?
