Advice on Jobseekers

Good evening, any advice would be super.

My mother was made redundant after the business she worked for closed down after 50 years,

She immediately took up employment in a bedsit as chambermaid/cleaner - but was made redundant after a month there too. It was temporary work.

So she has been claiming Jobseekers for around 12 weeks now, actively looking for work, and has managed to secure herself a small cleaning job at the local Grammar school - however it is only for 15 hours a week, and during the months of July - September, these hours may drop to only 4 hours a week (If that)

Now her advisor told her to keep claiming jobseekers, and to actively look for further work as she will be working under 16 hours, In addition due to her low wage, she will be eligible for some housing / council tax benefits.

If she signs off jobseekers, will she lose her housing benefit/council tax benefit?

Or is it best for her to keep signing on - as well as continuing to look for work, due to having this break in the summer holiday period, where she may be without any income at all should she not be able to find work during that period.

Many thanks in advance.
Wishing you all good luck!

HB and CTS are both income related so it is entirely dependant on how much money she brings into the household, it doesn't make any difference if she is on JSA or not.

As she is working less than sixteen hours she can remain on JSA, she will still get an NI credit even if she doesn't get any money. It is entirely her choice as to whether she wishes to remain on JSA for the NI credit and continue to seek full time work and comply with her Jobseekers agreement.
