Where to buy whole chicken at a good price

Does anybody have an idea where to buy chickens in bulk at a reasonable price? We eat a lot of it in our household and I am finding it expensive to folk out £4 for one in the supermarkets. Last time I got several when on half price offer at Morrisons at £1.85/kg but at the moment cannot seem to find anything cheap.

For a long time Lidl chickens were £2.05 kg , about 20p kg cheaper than elsewhere at the time.
Lost track now of the prices but a good starting point.

Aldi chickens are lovely, 2.99 for a small one. Me, husband and baby get 2 or 3 meals out of it but could probably get more out of it if we didnt have such big portions!

    Hi OP,

Tesco often include chickens in their '3 meats for £10' offer. I've often got 3 chickens, frozen two and cooked one fresh.

Can't remember the size but enough for feeding four plus the cat!

Try an independent supplier who sells to catering outlets. If you order a lot (you said you wanted bulk) then it will be far cheaper than supermarkets.

I normally buy the Lidl ones, about £3.50 for a chicken. But i think that the 3 for £10 is a good idea too.

Thank you all. I will have a look in Aldi and Lidl and see if their prices work out cheaper than the 3 for £10. Will also try and find a wholesaler online.

Oh, and it may also be worth checking to see if your local butcher does similar prices.
