Strelitzia Problem?

I have at last grown one of these from seed - But it seems to have a tap root or similar and this past week over two days has sent its root through the bottom of its pot and now lifts its pot enough to tip itself over!:eek: I should add that the plant is only 7" tall and in a 1/4 litre pot.
Tonight I set too with some cutters and released the pot and have re-set it in an old deep Clematis pot I had. My question is what do they ideally need, how do they tend to root, is it a tap root or do I need an armoured pot or similar??
I did read on google that they should be re-potted when the pot starts to bulge??? (In a pot pot)
All advice is welcome.
BTW the seeds are delightful - Imagine a small pea with an orange mohican haircut - but slow to chit and grow.

I have a Strelitzia Regina & a Strelitzia Nicosia both grown from seed. The Strelitzia Regina is now 7 years old and lives in a very large fancy plastic pot in my bathroom. Pottery would be too heavy for it's size but was in pottery with drainage when smaller. These plants have huge roots but I believe that they like to be in a reasonably compact pot if you want to see them flower. Mine hasn't flowered yet.0
