Self promotion?

Hi all,
Wanting to keep in the rules, I posted a comp last night which is to do with me but gives MSE's a great chance to win.
It got labelled as self promotion and then deleted, but nothing was said about how or why it had borken a rule (which i cannot find)
Do I have to be a company to post competitions and it not be classed as self promotion?
I have had a look through the guides and cant seem to find anything about self promotion not being allowed.
I am not spamming it either and a bit frustrating because my intentions are good.
Any advice/guidance is appreciated
Thanks
JB

if you post a comp in which you are involved it counts as self-promotion & is banned from MSE in generalproud gran to 4 lovely boys and one little girl0

I read on here once, that a MSEers comp can go on the boards as long as it's posted by another member
£630/ £20140 -
dont think thats strictly true it depends on th circumstances custardWhat goes around-comes around0

What if the MSEer with the comp pmed another MSer and asked them to post the comp?Rational judgement, now, at this very moment.
Virtuous action, now, at this very moment.

MoneySavingExpert.com is a free site - you cannot pay to buy advertising space - one of the reasons why so many people use it! Equally, you're not allowed to advertise any goods, services and/or companies anywhere on the forum, or through private messages, no matter how honourable your intentions.
'Advertising' includes touting for business; asking people to contact you; posting e-mail addresses which indicate a web address; linking to sites or blogs you or friends are involved with (whether you’re selling something or not); or linking to your eBay or other auction sales.
All posts which we consider to be advertising will be removed where reported.
..........................
9. No Advertising Of Own Websites. This site is free from advertising. Posts on any board considered to be advertising goods, services and/or companies will be removed. This includes the posting of a competition from your own site or from a site that you are employed by. We also do not allow advertising via PM. Examples of this can include anything from a specific sales post or a link to your own website in which you attempt to sell something to someone offering their holiday home to forum members. Unfortunately we cannot allow any advertising of any description no matter how honourable the intention.
.............................please be a responsible pet owner & spay/neuter your pets, too many strays & not enough homes for them sadly.

I think yours was deleted because to enter peeps had to like your pic on fb so that you could win a competition. Something like that needs to go in the referrals section not on the main boardA strong man stands up for himself, a stronger man stands up for others.0

Thank you for the info robbie. I was not entirely sure if it was a generalised comment I had read, or in relation to a specific scenario, but I guess it must have been the latter.
I personally don't think anyone need's to advertise their own competitions. There are not many comps that pass under the radar of the dedicated posters on the forum, so it will be posted eventually.
I appreciate the thought though OP, it was nice of you to want to give your fellow MSE'ers a chance to win.£630/ £20140
