Hi,
We've just moved into a new house and need to start from scratch with a garden. Unfortunately, we don't have much money to spend on the garden, so I was wondering where I should go to buy some plants. Does anyone have any advice for where to go to find any inexpensive but good sites on the web?
thanks.

I'd try freecycle and/or your local allotmentsEat food. Not too much. Mostly plants - Michael Pollan

Get cutting from people fairly easy to do what I do is put cutting in pots and cut a 2litre coke bottle up so lid stick up cut about 2/3rd way down and I drill some holes in, cutting will take 3-4 weeks to take maybe slightly more. Keep out of direct sun. I get plants also from a cheap local garden centre not national chain. Bought some carnations from B&Q few weeks back I think it was 6 for £3-£4 took several cutting from them0

I get lovely cheap and healthy plants from my local car boot sales.0

Local WI. Buy perennials you can divide and multiply. Also receive free advice, in bucket-loads, usually.0

thanks for the ideas - We have lots of car boots and I'll definitely check out freecycle etc.0

We have a couple of churches locally that have plant sales in May, and I noticed a local school is having a garden fare next week. You can practically fill your garden for a tender at these things.0

Don't forget seeds - they're often cheap at this time of year as stockists want to get rid of them and it's still not too late to sow some annual varieties. Also check out local street fairs and fetes as these often have very cheap plant stalls.Creator of the free Allotmentor vegetable garden/allotment plot planner0

Buy plants that will seed themselves around the garden. The three that do this best in mine are alchemilla mollis, Welsh poppies and erigeron karvinskianus.
I grew the last plant from seed and its brilliant, not only does it seed itself around the garden but it flowers for months. It's only about 6 inches high and is covered with small pink daisy flowers from late May until the frost.0
