Newly self employed, housing benefit help

Hi,
My father has been unemployed for a while and has been claiming JSA and HB.
He has just been offered the chance to work on a self employed basis as an employee working 16 hours per week on minimum wage.
He wants to accept this as he hates signing on but is confused as to what he needs to do with regards to housing benefit.
What proof's would he need to show the housing benefit people that he is self employed?
He probably wont have anything until after he's applied.
Ive tried to find this information myself but all i can find is info if you have your own buisness.
Thanks in advance
Andy.

If he will be working on a self employed basis then he will need to pay class 2 NI stamps. If he is being paid NMW then take NI out and in fact he is being paid less than NMW.
He should also be aware that HMRC may view his "self employment" differently and he should be employed via PAYE. I would say his employer is taking advantage at the least and at worse acting illegally. He wants an "employee" without the associated costs involved of employing people properly.
I'm sure people more qualified will be along shortly re Housing Benefit but as far as the self employed part he is being taking advantage of.0 -
To the OP. 16 hours at NMW = £99.04/week out of which he'd need to pay class 2 NI of £2.65/ week - his "employer" is not to be trusted IMO as it looks dodgy. He should be on PAYE not Self employed. What sort of job is it? Hopefully not pizza delivery using his own car.0
