registering for council tax

At what point do we have to register for council tax - we have just bought our property, have got the keys and are doing decorating there but aren't living there - will probably be about 6-8 weeks before we move in.
Do I have register to pay council tax now or when we first move in and officially start living there.
Thanks in advance

You need to inform the council of the date you became the owners.Lost my soulmate so life is empty.
I can bear pain myself, he said softly, but I couldna bear yours. That would take more strength than I have -

Once you own it, you are liable to pay the council tax. If the house is empty while you are decorating you may get an exemption or discount, but this varies wildly from council to council. You'll need to speak with them to check.0

check with your council as it varies. I didn't have to pay anything until the prop was actually fully furnished and lived in which gave me about 2weeks grace. An opinion is just that..... An opinion0
