Cancelling Contract?

Kimberley
Kimberley Posts: 14,871 Forumite
I have a T-Mobile contract which runs out in August. I'm in debt and can't afford the £31 monthly payments i am making and want to get a pay as you go sim card for my phone. I want to try and use a £10 credit on it each month.

Can i cancel the contact early? or do i have to wait until it runs out in August?

£31 sounds like quite a lot. You should be able to downgrade to a cheaper monthly tariff. I went abroad for 6 months and put my Orange mobile down from a £75/month max tariff to a £11/month tariff. It shouldn't be a problem changing unless you went through a third party provider who has tied you into more stringent terms.

Give t-mobile a call and try.

    Hope that helps,

And don't forget than per min charges on PAYG are much, much higher so it may be better sticking with your contract phone anyway (provided you can reduce the tariff).

Also the only way to cancel would be to pay the rest of your contract off.

Which at £31 per month would be £124.

If you must cancel then reduce your tariff to the lowest, leave it a couple of days and then pay off the contract eg, lower it to £11 per month and that would only be £44 to pay off.

    Good luck mate.

Yes but is that £11 a month plus calls and texts or without?

I just want to use my phone for texts mainly :)

If i cancel to a lower tariff will i be charged?

Networks usually have data tariffs, which is just for etxts and wap/gprs. ask if they do something like that, they are usually cheap.

But if you want to pay off your contract you would lower the tariff, send a letter to cancel and from the point they receive the letter and you pay, it will be cancelled.

I'm sure t-mobile will be able to tell you the best/cheapest tariff for texting.

If you need the freefone number for t-mobile try 0808 1214104 or 0808 1219999.

See if they have anything cheaper, but here at the bottom of the page you get 750 OFF peak minutes and 50 texts per month for £16

    hope this helps.

on a t-mobile contract you cannot downgrade until month 11, although they may be lenient if you explain the situation.

obviously if you are on a 18 month tariff you will have passed the 11 months and this won't affect you.
  • With other networks you will need to change to a lower monthly tariff and then once you have passed your billing date you can cancel .......... you must not tell t-mobile what you are doing or they can charge you the previously monthly contract amount.
