Bought flight for my sister - BA?

Hello!

My sister is coming to visit from Italy, I've found a convenient flight and bought it for her on my card, now I'm thinking - will they require her to have my car when she's at check in, or will her ID be ok?

The airline is British Airways.

Not sure if it still does, but the BA T&Cs used to state that you had to have the credit card the flight was booked on at check in.

I flew BA on Friday, checked in online 24 hours before departure, and only needed my passport at check in.

I've taken several flights on BA over the last couple of years and never had to produce the card it was booked on. Some of the flights were booked by my DH's employer at the time so didn't have a card, others were booked by ourselves and no card requested.

If you only have cabin baggage, the first time you need to interact with BA staff is at the gate when you board (unless you visit the BA lounge beforehand). Therefore there is no opportunity for BA to ask to see the credit card.

It can be used at self check-in machines at the airport, the booking reference does just as good or check-in on-line

I have never been asked to show it at the airport check in. I have a vague recollection of being asked at point of booking whether the person travelling was the holder of the card.

Only if you can check in online, and print your own boarding pass. In the event that BA want to see the payment they won't let you check in online and hence make you speak to staff in the terminal.

I have been asked to show payment card at check in on very rare occasions. It's an anti fraud mechanism, and might flag if you are using someone else's card to fly.

I have been asked 3 times to show the card I used to book. Once I had no longer been using the card so just had to show any other card I had. I would contact BA if I were the OP, they might put a note on the booking
The common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot. If you deal with the lowest bidder, it is well to add something for the risk you run, and if you do that you will have enough to pay for something better.

The other option is to carry a photocopy of the card (both sides), and a photocopy of photo-ID of the card holder with you. (But please don't lose the paper!).

In days long gone by that was a common method for buying flights for someone else - the TA or airline would let you buy flights for someone else if you could fax them a copy of the card and your ID.

    Check your BA e-ticket receipt,

"If the payment cardholder is travelling, you must bring the card used to pay for this booking to the airport with you, for verification, before you can travel."
